Erin Phillips was diagnosed with leukemia at the age of 8 during her soccer season. During her 2 years of chemotherapy treatments, she looked up to Mia Hamm and Mia’s foundation for inspiration.  (Link)

Erin has been finished with her treatments for over 5 years and currently plays on her high school varsity and club soccer teams. Mia’s foundation continues to inspire Erin as she enjoys helping out at charity events that benefit other children who are sick.

Through this association, Erin was invited to the Washington Freedom soccer game on May 3, 2009, to kick out the ceremonial first ball to Abby Wambach and to also meet Mia Hamm, who was there to be inducted into the team’s Hall of Freedom.
